New search and data visualization tools provide data sharing and collaboration capabilities
BOSTON MA (November 5, 2019) – HealthDataViz today announced launch of data presentation and visualization tools for the NYC. gov website. Designed for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), one of the largest public health agencies in the world with more than 200 years of leadership in the field, the tools can also be used by healthcare professionals, regulators, policymakers, advocacy groups and the press to access healthcare data, understand the meaning behind it, and develop appropriate responses to it. The enhancements are being unveiled at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA) in Philadelphia this week.
Kathy Rowell, HealthDataViz co-founder says, “Data is not only revolutionizing the delivery of healthcare for industry professionals. It also empowers all stakeholders in the mission of promoting and protecting public health. We created these new tools to foster collaboration among all these industry players so they can share industry intelligence, set priorities and deploy resources in the most impactful and cost-efficient way.”
“Healthcare professionals are increasingly being forced out of their lanes to address social and political issues like addiction, safe housing and poverty,” says co-founder Sandy Lawson. “It is therefore becoming crucial for healthcare professionals to connect with, influence and coordinate with other industry participants. These new tools enable them to do that by providing access to the most actionable social determinants of health (SDoH) data.“
The new tools include:
- EpiQuery, presenting survey, disease reporting, and census data featuring intuitive topic navigation for novice users and advanced search and analytical capabilities for experts
- Community Health Profiles which allow for dynamic comparisons of social, economic, and health conditions across neighborhoods
- Plus new visualizations, custom downloads, mobile access, real-time updating
“Data previously only leveraged by expert epidemiologists are now readily accessible to anyone with an interest in public health and new dynamic query and data visualization tools help uncover important trends and context,” notes Dan Benevento, HealthDataViz partner and technical lead for the project.
All of these tools transform NYC Health’s existing data and website into a powerful platform for understanding the status, trends and needs in:
- Healthy Living
- Diseases and Conditions
- Mental Health
- Health Care Access and Use
- Children and Youth
- Community Characteristics
- Living and Environmental Conditions
- Birth and Death
